food allergiesFood allergy is a reaction caused by eating certain food items, which are not accepted by your body. These reactions can be as common as sneezing or hiccups or can be fatal as anaphylaxis. When you know about the food items which cause you allergies, you can just avoid eating them to prevent that allergic reaction which can cause you so much trouble. Simple lifestyle changes make you less prone to these allergic reactions.

Be aware of what you are eating

Never ignore food labels, read them carefully. Make sure they don’t contain items which can cause you allergy. The presence of common allergens (if there is any) is generally mentioned in the food labels, so don’t ignore it. Very common items like egg, milk or peanuts can be a reason of your allergy.  So, prehand knowledge of ingredients can save you from trouble. Always consult your food allergy doctor before consuming unknown.

Always say no, when in doubt

If you think that you don’t know your food exactly, say no to it. Especially in restaurants or in parties we tend to eat certain dishes for the very first time, eating them right away can put you at the risk of allergic reaction. So don’t try new food items just like that, say no to them. We generally underestimate the seriousness related to a food allergy, but in many cases of serious reactions the victim can reach to an ICU, when in doubt just steer clear yourself. An immediate help from food allergy clinic near your place can help you in this.

Tell your family, friends and caregivers about the food allergy of your child in advance.

Children are more prone to food allergies, so educating the caregivers about your child’s allergy can eliminate the tension and hassle of keeping a tab all the time. List all the items which can cause allergic reaction to your child. Give this list to babysitters, teachers and other caregivers. Also keep them informed about what should be done if the emergency occurs. Steps like giving allergy medication, cleaning or first aid can help reduce the impact of allergy. Make them aware of what you do when something like this happens.
