Only very small fractions of patients who believe they are allergic to antibiotics or who carry a label of being penicillin-allergic have truly significant and specific reaction to the given antibiotic. Administration of foreign substances into human body such as medications, drugs and vaccines can frequently lead to various adverse reactions with multitude of gastrointestinal, skin, musculoskeletal, neurologic and respiratory symptoms.

It is estimated that only 5 – 10% of these reactions are true allergic reactions. Whether allergic or not, such reactions can range from mild to life-threatening. It takes our experienced and well trained experts to identify and diagnose reactions to medications, drugs and vaccines and guide the patients towards their prevention. The risk of reactions to certain agents can be minimized by proper pre-medication (IV contrast material) or by expert-performed desensitization.
